Which college/ university is right for me?
What is right for you - Certificate, Diploma, or Degree?
Certificate |
Certificate is awarded to students who complete the required course work in a specific area to develop a specific skill. The difference in the course as compared to degree is that one does not study general subjects which are not required to build your skill in your field of study. The focus is on training to develop the specific skill. One can complete a certificate program within a year. Mostly, students who opt for a certificate course are looking to develop a specific skill which will complement their current career or want to advance to a different department in their industry. While a certificate can be earned in less time and with less cost, the career options do become limited and without substantial experience the career advancement opportunities are limited. |
|
Diploma |
Diploma is slightly more advanced than a certificate and takes about a year to complete. The course work in a diploma offer a good understanding of the chosen field of study. As with the certificate, one does not study general subjects during the course of their diploma. The diploma programs are structured based on the inputs from industry leaders. They provide advice on what should be included in the training so that the students are job-ready upon graduation. They offer practical and hands-on courses to enable students to learn skills for use on their jobs on a day-to-day basis. Diploma courses are also of short duration and cost-effective. | |
Degree |

Some students who do not want to dedicate 4 years for a Bachelors degree and are looking for a cost-effective way to gain the skills nedded to enter the job market early. If they wish to complete their Bachelors, then they can transfer their credits and join the Bachelors program midway. Degrees offer a possibility of higher paying jobs, about USD 10,000 more than with just a hogh school diploma. The only factors to consider are the time involved and the cost. |
